CCP Middle Size Godzilla EX Vol. 8 Shin Godzilla Radiant Heat Ray Clear Purple Review

The CCP Middle Size Godzilla EX Vol. 8 Shin Godzilla Radiant Heat Ray Clear Purple edition has been making waves in the designer toy community. As a standout entry in the Godzilla 2016 review circuit, this figure captures the terrifying beauty of Shin Godzilla in a translucent purple form that mimics his iconic Radiant Heat Ray. Whether you're a seasoned collector or new to sofubi, this piece deserves a closer look.

In this review, we'll dive into the sculpt, paint application, articulation, and overall value of this CCP release. We'll also compare it to other Shin Godzilla figures and discuss how it fits into a broader collection, including some tips for displaying it alongside other vinyl treasures from Bubble Wrapp Toys.

Unboxing and First Impressions

The figure arrives in a window box that showcases the clear purple vinyl immediately. The packaging is sturdy and collector-friendly, with minimal waste. Inside, the figure is secured in a clear plastic tray, and the only accessory is a small pamphlet about the CCP EX series. The first thing you notice is the striking color: a deep, translucent purple that catches light beautifully, reminiscent of Shin Godzilla's heat ray charging up.

The sculpt is a faithful interpretation of the 2016 movie design, with the asymmetrical features, gaping jaw, and detailed skin texture. The clear purple material adds a unique twist, making it feel almost like a living energy being. The figure stands about 20 cm tall, which is a good size for shelf display without overwhelming your space.

• Window box packaging with minimal plastic waste.
• No assembly required; figure comes ready to display.
• Sturdy vinyl with a slight give, typical of sofubi quality.

Sculpt and Paint Application

CCP is known for its detailed sculpts, and this Shin Godzilla figure is no exception. The skin texture is highly detailed, with bumps and ridges that mimic the real creature. The face is particularly expressive, with the jaw open in a menacing roar. The teeth are painted white, adding contrast to the purple body. The eyes are small and dark, giving it an eerie, lifelike gaze.

The paint application is clean, with no sloppy edges. The clear purple is not completely opaque; it has a subtle gradient effect, darker at the base and lighter at the tips of the dorsal plates. This creates a sense of depth and makes the figure look even more dynamic. The only minor critique is that the paint on the teeth could be slightly more precise, but at this price point, it's excellent.

• Detailed skin texture with realistic bumps and ridges.
• Translucent purple with gradient shading.
• Clean paint application; minor imperfections on teeth only under close inspection.

Articulation and Stability

As a sofubi figure, articulation is limited, but the CCP Middle Size Godzilla EX offers a few points of movement. The arms can rotate at the shoulders, and the tail is slightly posable. This allows for some dynamic display options, though it's primarily a static piece. The figure stands firmly on its own, thanks to the wide feet and balanced weight distribution.

The vinyl is soft and flexible, which is typical for sofubi, but it holds its pose well. There is a slight wobble if you shake it, but on a stable shelf, it's fine. The tail is the most fragile part, so handle with care when adjusting it. Overall, it's a sturdy figure that will last for years.

• Articulated shoulders and tail allow for minor pose adjustments.
• Stable standing without a base.
• Soft vinyl is durable but requires gentle handling of the tail.

Comparison with Other Shin Godzilla Figures

When compared to other Shin Godzilla figures on the market, the CCP EX Vol. 8 stands out for its unique clear purple color. Most figures use the standard dark gray or black color scheme, so this one adds a pop of color to your collection. The sculpt is on par with higher-end figures, but the translucent material makes it a conversation piece.

In terms of size, it's a middle ground – not too big, not too small. It pairs well with other CCP EX figures, such as the previous releases in the series. If you're a fan of the 'Radiant Heat Ray' scene, this figure captures that energy perfectly. It also makes a great companion to the Negora Red Lucky Cat by Konatsu, which offers a more whimsical take on a cat-themed figure, or the Animal Charmy Beckoning Cat by KODAMA SANGYO TOY for a charming contrast.

• Unique clear purple color differentiates it from standard releases.
• Comparable size to other CCP EX figures.
• Pairs well with both serious and playful figures.

Display Tips and Care

To get the best visual impact, display the figure in a spot with good lighting. The clear purple will catch the light and create a glowing effect, especially if you use a small LED spotlight. Avoid direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure can cause the vinyl to fade or become brittle. Dust it regularly with a soft, dry cloth.

If you want to create a themed display, consider pairing it with other Godzilla items or with other clear vinyl figures. The Mochikko Same-san Soft Vinyl Cool Sky - Preorder is another clear vinyl figure that would look great next to it. Or, for a pop of color, the Hakasai-Kun Pastel Peach Pot by Saki Takita adds a soft pastel contrast.

• Use LED lighting to enhance the translucent effect.
• Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
• Dust with a soft cloth to maintain the finish.

The CCP Middle Size Godzilla EX Vol. 8 Shin Godzilla Radiant Heat Ray Clear Purple edition is a must-have for any Godzilla fan. Its unique color, detailed sculpt, and sturdy build make it a standout piece. Whether you're a seasoned collector or just starting, this figure is a great addition.
