A concise guide to the CCP Middle Size Gamera Gyaos (1995) Standard Ver. figure, covering design, scale, and who it's best for.
Quick Answer
The CCP Middle Size Gamera Gyaos (1995) Standard Ver. is a charming, palm-sized soft vinyl figure that captures the monster's retro look from the 1995 film. It's a great pick for collectors who want an affordable, easy-to-display piece with a classic feel.
Design and Scale
This figure is part of CCP's Middle Size Series, which aims for an old-fashioned look with a slightly deformed, three-dimensional design. At about 12 cm tall, it fits neatly in your hand and on a shelf, making it easy to collect without taking up too much space. The coloring is based on the 1995 film "Gamera: Guardian of the Universe," giving it a nostalgic appeal for fans of that era.
Material and Feel
Like many sofubi (soft vinyl) figures, this one has a lightweight, slightly squishy feel. The material is durable but can be more prone to scratches or scuffs than harder plastics, so handle with care. The paint application is consistent with the series' concept of looking "old-looking new," meaning it has a retro charm rather than a glossy, modern finish.
Decision Rules for Collectors
- Scale Check: At 12 cm, this figure is smaller than typical sofubi (often 15-20 cm). If you prefer larger, more imposing displays, this may feel too compact.
- Retro vs. Modern: The 'old-looking new' finish means it has a matte, slightly weathered appearance. If you want a shiny, movie-accurate replica, this figure's charm lies in its vintage toy-like feel. Consider if your collection leans toward nostalgic reproductions or screen-accurate details.
- Price Point: With a catalog price of USD 29.25 (down from USD 45.00), it's an affordable entry into sofubi collecting. This makes it a low-risk option for trying out the format.
